Please join us for our first club meeting of 2023-24 in-person at Ivy Creek Natural Area where club member David Shoch will discuss his recent study on Merlins in Virginia.
David is a forester, working on conservation and natural resource management for over 30 years. He began his career as a field biologist for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on a bird habitat study on the North Slope of Alaska in 1987. While most of his professional work since then is less bird-centric, David’s lifelong interest in birds continues on with research projects far and wide, and some close to home, including a study of the expansion of Brown-headed Nuthatch in Virginia and more recently, of the small wintering population of merlins in Charlottesville.
