Adventure on the Eastern Shore for Spring Migration – May 11 – 13
THIS PROPOSED EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED due to lack of interest We may try proposing it again in the fall to see if there are takers.
Come join us for a birding weekend on the Eastern Shore. We will stay at Brickhouse Neck, a large private house on the marsh about 20 miles north of Cape Charles, VA.
On the house’s first floor there are 4 bedrooms and 2 shared bathrooms. Each bedroom will accommodate 2 people very comfortably and there are single beds in the same room for others if desired.
On the second floor there is a common area, Living Room, Dining Room, Kitchen and 1 bathroom.
Three single kayaks, life vests and paddles are available for birding in the marsh. In addition, there are local guides and outfitters nearby who can take you birding on the barrier islands of Cedar, Parramore and Hog. The best way to bird this area is by boat. However, within a short drive there is excellent birding at Kiptopeke and on the Chesapeake’s western shore.
What’s provided?
• Full use of the kitchen, refrigerator, microwave, dishes and utensils and dishwasher.
• Bed linens and blankets.
What to bring?
• Towels, wash cloths, soap and shampoo, etc.
• Food, drinks, snacks and all such.
• Your boat, canoe or kayak – there is a dock at the house and a boat ramp 10 minutes away.
• Your birding gear.
• Good attitude and outlook, smiles, and a desire to enjoy great spring birding.
What does it cost?
For (2) nights and the three day trip, each of the 4 bedrooms costs $225.00 for double occupancy, (two people); $112.50 for each additional person. Note: Each bedroom must have a minimum of two people paying $112.50. No bedrooms are available for only 1 person.
A local birder, naturalist and 6th generation waterman, Rick Kellam, will take up to 8 people out to the barrier islands for about $100 per person for a 4 hour trip, depending on how many sign up.
