Talk Overview: When animals are reared in captivity, their survival in the wild post-translocation is poor. To improve survival post-release, rearing protocols can include trainings or enrichment that elicit behaviors more akin to their wild counterparts, such as predator aversion training, foraging training, or acclimating the animals to their release site.
With her PhD research, Jessica Roberts explores whether these behavior-based management techniques are helping develop essential behaviors and increasing the survival of birds post-release.
Speaker Bio: Jessica earned her bachelor’s degree from American University in Washington, DC and is in the final months of her PhD at George Mason University.
