Tuesday, August 28
The evening watch began at 7:00pm under partly coudy skies and
a warm evening (84 F). In attendance were 31 persons, including
one child.
The first Nighthawk was spotted at 7:12, and others appeared,
mainly flying northward, until the last pair at 7:35. We saw a
total of 15 birds, but because the directions were erratic we
might have seen the same bird more than once. Two or three of
the birds flew overhead, providing good looks, and most observers
saw the characteristic wing markings. The evening ended at 8:00pm
with darkening skies.

Those who missed Tuesday were out of luck on Thursday when the
weather featured sprinkles and occasional lightning, some bolts
occurring within a mile. After waiting until about 7:15pm the
seven folks who turned out decided to call it a night, without
any Nighthawks to show for their effort.
