New scholarship launched for bird enthusiasts at PVCC
(Charlottesville, Va.) – The Piedmont Virginia Community College Educational Foundation has partnered with the Monticello Bird Club (MBC) to offer a new scholarship for PVCC students interested in ornithology.
The MBC is a Charlottesville-based nonprofit organization that promotes interest in and knowledge of nature, birds and conservation. Among the ways in which MBC serves its members are activities and educational programs about birds, avian life cycle, habitat preservation, survival needs and bird contributions to the environment. The new scholarship will provide assistance for students to participate in PVCC’s three-credit Field Ornithology class. The scholarship is intended to support a local student in pursuing his or her interest in ornithology and the natural world.
“The PVCC Field Ornithology class is an opportunity to see and hear Virginia birds in their natural habitat as well as non-resident birds as they migrate through the Commonwealth,” said Doug Rogers, MBC president. “The class is a great introduction to the science of ornithology, and Monticello Bird Club is pleased to partner with the PVCC Educational Foundation to provide this experience to a worthy student.”
Applications will be accepted from now through Friday, Dec. 15. Interested students can apply online at www.pvcc.edu/monticellobirdscholarship, or by contacting Silvia Dowell, PVCC alumni and scholarships coordinator, at [email protected] or by calling 434.961.5204.
