=President Doug Rogers opened the meeting and welcomed members of the Charlottesville Camera Club Several first timers stood and introduced themselves. A total of forty members and guests were present.
Doug reminded members to place bird seed orders now. The deadline for orders is November 1, and the pick-up date is November 11 at the VA Dept. of Forestry building. Orders can be made online or by mail-in.
=Joanne Bricker shared experiences watching hawks flying above the 4000 feet elevation at Hanging Rock Observatory in Gap Mills, West Virginia. Also shared were birding excursions in the Maritime regions of Canada, including Cape Breton, Prince Edward Island, and New Brunswick.
=The club has received two requests from private schools as a result of our community outreach initiative to give birding programs to local classrooms. MBC will also award a scholarship to a member of the Blue Ridge Young Birders club for a summer birding camp.
=Jenny Gaden announced the 2017 Charlottesville area Christmas Bird Count will take Sunday place on December 17.
=MBC is in need of a Field Trips coordinator and leaders.
=Maynard Davis gave the treasurers report. The club has paid its annual insurance fee. Bird seed sale is underway.
=Myrlene Staten reported that we have 115 members to date. We plan to host a table at the City Market several times during 2018 and she is asking for volunteers to man the table. She had a Monticello Bird Club tablecloth made for our public events.

=Nancy Newman shared information about an offer through Shutterfly to make a smartphone case with your personal photos.
=Stauffer Miller was honored with a lifetime membership to the Monticello Bird Club for his many years of service to the club as president and field trip leader.
