Piedmont Virginia Bird Club Meeting Minutes
May 4, 2022
Club president, Guy Babineau, opened the Zoom meeting at 7:00 PM.
Membership: Membership chair, Scott Connuck, reported that the club has 235
members to date, compared with 211 members at the same time in 2021.
Field Trips: Chair, Susan Babineau detailed upcoming events.
May 4: PVBC Bird Club monthly meeting.
May 7: 7:30 AM First Saturday bird walk at Ivy Creek Natural Area
May 10: 7:00 AM Greenbrier Park field trip
May 11: Secluded Farm field trip
May 14: Glenmore field trip
May 21: 7:30 AM Pine Knot field trip
June 4: 7:30 AM First Saturday bird walk, Ivy Creek Natural Area
June 17: Virginia Society of Ornithologists summer field trip to Blacksburg
Virginia Society of Ornithologists: Guy talked about the benefits of belonging to the
VSO. The society organizes field trips outside the immediate area.
Avian Flu: Guy directed the club members to the most current information available
about controlling the avian bird flu that has been reported in this area at
http://allaboutbirds.org/news/avian-influenza-outbreak-should-you-take-down-your-bird-
feeder.
Other sites he named for accurate information are the Virginia Department of Wildlife
Resources site and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
Programs: Myrlene Staten, program chair, introduced Alex Wilke with the Nature
Conservancy who manages the Migratory Bird program on the Eastern shore.
The meeting was adjourned and the Zoom call ended at 8:22 PM.
