Monticello Bird Club Virtual Meeting Minutes: 1 April 2020
The club’s first Zoom meeting had 36 attendees including first-timer Kathy Deacon.
Scott Connuck reported on membership with a reminder that our dues support many programs. Memberships made now will carry over to the summer of 2021.
Many recent bird sightings were shared verbally and through the chat option. Jenny Gaden reported a Western Tanager, also Vesper Sparrows and a Swamp Sparrow. Wood Ducks were seen at Ivy Creek Natural Area as well as a Bald Eagle. Fox Sparrows were seen at Lickinghole Creek. A pair of Barred Owls at Dunlora and a Louisiana Waterthrush. Maynard Davis reported a King Fisher at Key West and a pair of Red-shouldered Hawks at Stony Point. Amy Neale reported on the Heron Rookery at Ivy Creek. A Bufflehead was seen at Ragged Mountain. Peggy Cornett saw a pair of male Bufflehead and six female Bufflehead ducks on the Rivanna River. JoAnn Daley reported Chipping Sparrows.
Myrlene Staten recommended watching the live web cams on the Cornell laboratory All About Birds site.
Guy gave a tutorial on the zoom meeting he had prepared for the remainder of the hour, which involved an interactive bird identification activity. The program generated a lot of member participation and was great fun.
