Monticello Bird Club Meeting Minutes-02 October 2019
President Guy Babineau presided and welcomed 32 members and guests in attendance. Several newcomers attended the meeting after learning about the club at the Rockfish Gap Hawk Watch and the Ivy Creek First Saturday bird walks.
Scott Connuck reported that membership is at 133, which is short of our 180 goal. He is doing some outreach for new members at the end of October by leading a bird walk for UVA students.
Susan Babineau reported on upcoming field trips. October 5 is the First Saturday Bird Walk at Ivy Creek, led by Janet Paisley. October 12 is the Rockfish Valley Trail to see/hear lingering warblers. October 19 is a walk and workday at Bentivar Marsh, which is on private property. The trip is limited to 15 people. Last year Vesper Sparrows were seen at this site.
Maynard Davis reported that the birdseed sale is in full swing. The deadline for ordering is October 23 and pick-up at the Forestry warehouse is November 2.
Jenny Gaden announced the 2020 Christmas bird count will take place Sunday, December 15. This citizen scientist opportunity has taken place in Charlottesville since 1924.
The Nelson County Rarity Roundup is on October 19. See the Monticello Bird Club website for more details and to volunteer.
