The MBC conservation committee members who are addressing the bird strikes at the Brooks Family YMCA aquatics window have decided that it is necessary to monitor the strikes this fall to determine the severity of the problem. We would like to start immediately and continue into the beginning of November. We are looking for volunteers who are willing to choose one day a week to turn up at the Y around noon, if possible, and check to see if there are any birds on the patio at the base of the window. It should take little more than five minutes to do so and send in a report. All details of the protocol will be sent to those who express an interest in participating. Please contact Jenny Gaden, [email protected] to receive this information, and to follow up with your decision. We will then meet with the volunteers at the Y to show you the ropes before you start on your own.
The Piedmont Virginia Bird Club also has a Facebook group where members share bird and club related information and photos. If you are a Facebook user, we would like to have you join the group by clicking here and requesting to join. Because this is a closed group, the administrator will have to approve your request to join. Once approved you can join the active discussion on Facebook.
