Contributed by Maynard Davis
The 2017 Bird Seed Sale was our most successful fundraiser ever, with record sales of $14,640. The previous record was $13,324 two years ago. After expenses, the Club realized just over $4,000 in new funds for its projects. There were 152 customers, also a record; and 86 of them were non-members. We thank everyone who supported the Club with your purchases.
The seed distribution on Saturday, November 11, experienced fewer problems than in the past, thanks to the efforts of customers and volunteers alike (Editor’s note… and in large part, our success is due to the countless hours, indefatiguable efforts, and numerous spreadsheets volunteered by Maynard to the Sale from beginning to end!). It’s quite a feat to distribute nine tons of bird seed! We especially thank our volunteers: Joanne Bricker, Burnie Davis, Maynard Davis, Dave Hogg, John Holden, Tom Leback, Bernice Melvin, Amy Neale, Janet Paisley, Tom Rapp, Jon Rockett, Doug Rogers, Kathy Sudduth, and Lou Tanner.
Also contributing to the sale’s success were the following members who called customers in October: Susan Babineau, Joanne Bricker, Lesslie Crowell, Maynard Davis, Patty Kalbfleisch, Bob Letts, Bernice Melvin, Amy Neale, Janet Paisley, Doug Rogers, Myrlene Staten, and Kathy Sudduth. Thank you!
As in the past, the Club made bird seed contributions to various partner organizations. The recipients included Ivy Creek Natural Area, Stone-Robinson Elementary School, Venable Elementary School, Free Union Country School, and Greer School. Monticello Bird Club is pleased to support the worthwhile programs of these partners.
Again, many thanks to all for a successful sale, especially from this year’s co-chairs: Maynard Davis, Bernice Melvin, and Doug Rogers.
