After weeks of emails, phone calls, scanning of Virginia Beach weather reports, and countless other niggly details, MBC’s President Doug Rogers herded all assembled birders and and their numerous lenses aboard the Bay Princess on Saturday, February 4th, for the highly anticipated boat trip around the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel islands. Launch time was delayed until noon due to high winds, but skies were sunny, and the bundled and many-layered birders clambered aboard and were treated to sights of seals, dolphins, a humpback whale (carcass, sorry) as well as witnessing a feeding frenzy of diving Northern Gannets and three species of gulls. If you weren’t there, here are some pictures to give you a sense of the adventure. Thanks to Doug for all his organizational and photographic skills.
