President Doug Rogers opened the meeting with a moment of silence for Priscilla Kingston, who passed away November 26. Priscilla was a long-time and beloved member of the Monticello Bird Club who served as Hospitality Chair for the past fifteen years. Carol Hill remarked that Priscilla was also the unofficial MBC historian and she hopes her archives can be preserved. A celebration of Priscilla’s life will be on Saturday, December 17, noon—2 PM, at Hill & Wood Funeral Home.
Doug welcomed first-time visitors and asked that they introduce themselves during the holiday party that followed the meeting.
It was announced that MBC secretary Peggy Cornett recently received the Garden Club of America’s 2016 Zone VII Horticulture Commendation.
The reception and awards for the Bird Conservation Poster Contest was held Sunday, December 4, at the Ivy Creek education building. Thanks to Mary Mapel and volunteers who made it happen.
Jenny Gaden directed us to the MBC website for information about the Christmas Bird Count, December 18. All are welcome. Please contact Jenny if you wish to join a team. Other upcoming bird counts include: Warren County count on New Year’s Day, led by Allan Hale; and the Blue Ridge/Skyline Drive count on January 2, led by Tom Wieboldt.
The business meeting adjoined early to allow time for the program by Gabriel Mapel and the holiday party at the end of the evening.
