Announcing the second annual Bird Conservation Poster Contest sponsored by The Monticello Bird Club of Charlottesville and The Blue Ridge Young Birders Club. The theme of this year’s competition is Understanding the Threats: Finding the Solutions, inviting students to investigate the mounting threats to bird populations and explore effective corrective measures.
The competition is open to public, private and homeschooled students in K-8th grade in Charlottesville, as well as Albemarle and Nelson Counties. Binoculars will be awarded to the two top individuals and a complete bird feeder station with seed to the top two classrooms in each of the three divisions; K-2, 3-5th grade,and 6-8th.
There is an extensive online selection of curriculum resources to assist teachers in educating their students about individual conservation topics. These resources, along with complete contest rules are on our website, www.blueridgeyoungbirders.org. We have created a 30 minute video to introduce the contest and to help teachers and students understand some of the threats that birds face. The entry deadline for the competition is Saturday, November 19th, 2016 and an awards ceremony will be held Sunday, December 4th 2-4pm in the Education building at the Ivy Creek Natural Area.
